Letter from the President May, 2002
FoRF announces a plan to open
the Robert Frost Stone House
Museum in time for fall foliage
season 2002!
-
- Hello Friends,
-
- Yes, by late summer there will
be a Robert Frost Museum in Vermont!
-
- On May 31, 2002 the Stone House
was acquired and construction will start to make the necessary
changes to make the property
accessible to the public. We must
put in a parking lot and a new driveway, build pathways and make
the entrances accessible. We will need to install restroom facilities
and a reception area.
-
- The project is being financed with
a combination of funds from the Chittenden Bank, Vermont Housing
and Conservation Board, and private sources. The total budget
of $500,000 has not been completely covered. We still have some
"miles to go," but we have "enough to go ahead
with." In the next 3 months, we need to raise another $30,000
to get us to opening day. We will continue to raise funds right
through the summer. Its going to take several years before
we are financially comfortable.
-
- The opening celebrations will include
a Frost First Night party and a Frost Fortnight to introduce
the public to Frost's historic
house. If things go well, we could be ready in late August to
mid-September.
-
- Autumn is truly glorious in Vermont
- it was Frost's favorite time of year. The scent of apples coming
over a stone wall, a sheet of
ice on the drinking trough, the land enchanted with the color
of amethyst - the beauties he so truly sees.
-
- We invite you to come see for yourself.
You could be Frost-bitten too!
