The Friends of Robert Frost started in 1997 as a discussion group in Bennington, Vermont. At that time, we called ourselves The Robert Frost Society since we did not know of the "real" Robert Frost Society organized in connection with the Modern Language Association. The transition of our name to The Friends of Robert Frost occurred in 2000. Here is the publicity file on our history from 1997 to the present.
These articles appeared in the
Bennington Banner in 1997-8 announcing our formation and a year
later for our first public poetry reading. Both events occurred
on Frost's birthday March 26.
In 1999, we created an exhibit at the Bennington Museum to celebrate Frost's 125th Anniversary. It opened on his birthday March 26.
The Friends of Robert Frost was organized and incorporated in 2000 and held its first annual meeting on March 26, 2000. The Associated Press ran this article for National Poetry Month in April, 2000.
